Armi Ratia, Marimekko’s founder, believed the true essence of a flower couldn’t be captured in print. That’s why floral prints were excluded from Marimekko collections. Maija Isola designed Unikko to be an abstraction of a flower rather than a photorealistic rendition. It emerged as part of a broader series of floral abstractions. Piirto Unikko
is an airy variation of Unikko, Maija Isola's iconic 1964 print. It nods to minimalism while emphasizing the graphic lines of the Unikko pattern.
Heijastus Unikko
is a simplified, stylized version of the beloved floral. Unikko meets Unikko, bringing us reflections both from the past and the future.
Vesi Unikko
